T
he Christchurch Musicians Club was formed as a
social club for Musicians to mix and mingle after a job when 10pm closing
started in the late 60's. A venue was purchased in Peterborough Street
and muso's would meet, jam and tell stories well into the small hours.
The club eventually moved to new premises in Hazeldine Road and continued in
a similar manor. It was not unusual to see prominent visiting overseas
artists arrive unannounced at a club evening which was pure magic.
Hazeldine Road was later sold, however, the club now has a vibrant committee
who run a variety of social activities at various locations throughout the
city and Canterbury district. The ideals of a social "meet
and greet" and the opportunity for young musicians to play and learn with
older members created a great learning environment which still remains.
A monthly function is run around an anchor band and invited guests.
This is a chance for family and friends plus all musicians at all levels of
skill and experience an opportunity to perform "live" in front of an
knowledgeable and supportive audience.
